SGS Member of Honor Award

 

The Member of Honor is awarded to Spaniards who have distinguished themselves through an lifelong dedication to spreading geography and travel and to promoting an understanding of different cultures through travel.


2003. To Rafael Termes for his extensive career in mountain climbing and for his unfaltering dedication to mountains that causes him to continue to return to Spanish summits regularly even at 83 years of ages.

 

2002. César Pérez de Tudela, mountain climber, for a lifelong dedication to mountains and Orlando Villas Boas, discoverer and explorer of the Amazons (posthumous award).

 

2001. Jesús González Green, Spanish pioneer in hot-air-ballooning, the first in our country to possess a flying permit and reporter with a broad professional career.

 

2000. Jordi Clos, a modern-day businessman and sponsor, founder of the Museum of Egyptology in Barcelona and the Clos Archaeological Foundation.

 

1999. Juan Oyarzábal, for being the first Spanish man, and the sixth in the world to have reached the summit of the fourteen mountains that stand over 8,000 meters tall.
