SGS National Award

The SGS National Award is presented annually to people, companies, or entities that have distinguished themselves through their work towards publicizing geography and travel and understanding different cultures through travel in accordance with the objectives that the Spanish Geographic Society proposes in its articles of association. This award will never be presented to a founding member of the SGS.

To Ramón Folch, professor and investigator that has made several contributions to the construction of sociological and sustainable thought, reflected in his extensive bibliography, and in the agreement of interests and positions between environmentalism, social sectors and conventional economics.

2003. To
Real Sociedad de Alpinismo Peñalara y Centre Excursionista de Catalunya. The two great institutions for mountaineering and hiking in Spain are pioneers in defending and conserving our mountain landscape and the undisputed stomping grounds of our most distinguished mountaineers.
These two organizations are presented this award for their historical tradition, their commitment to the environment, their constant support to those who love travel and the mountains in diverse aspects and for setting off important initiatives as related to the investigation of mountain landscapes

2001. Eduardo Martínez de Pisón , one of the most distinguished Spanish geographers who played a crucial part in Spanish mountaineering and is the author of numerous investigative Works on glacial areas around the globe.

2000. Miguel de la Quadra-Salcedo for his extensive professional career devoted to spreading travel among the Spanish people.

1999. Jordi Sabater Pi , Catalonian scientist, for his long, productive and benevolent career in academia and the professional sector throughout Spain , the U.S. and Africa.
